On my most recently visit to Cartagena, I stayed at the incredible Casa San Agustin hotel – one of the top boutique hotels in the city, a member of both Leading Hotels of the World and Virtuoso. It was so wonderful being back in Colombia – the friendliness of the local people, the vibrancy of the culture, the incredible culinary opportunities, and the gorgeous architecture of this colonial walled city remains just breathtaking!

Try to add on a trip to Banos if you’re traveling through Ecuador! Here, a client kindly submitted a guest blog after I planned a trip for her to Quito and Banos.
I love Ecuador and have been there several times! A client contacted me about itinerary recommendations for her trip in March. Here’s a proposal for 5 nights in Quito and 2 nights in Banos.
I’ve planned several trips to this destination for my clients and the most commonly asked question is first, “How to visit the Galapagos Islands?” The second question is, which way is best? There is no right answer, although I work with you to pick the best travel style for your needs, so I’ve assembled a few highlights of my favorite cruises and hotels to share below. This can be an incredible itinerary for travelers who wish to experience nature and exploration at its finest. If you’ve already done an African safari or an Alaskan wilderness cruise, consider adding the Galapagos to your bucket list!
Some say “a hotel is just a place to sleep,” but I maintain that staying in the right hotel can enhance and complement your travel experience! Hotel Bantu did exactly that. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, its wonderful location in the old city, beautiful courtyards, rooftop pool, and of course Tado the Toucan all combine to offer an extraordinary experience in the Old City. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to any of my friends, family, or clients.
Once in a while you get an opportunity to do something so amazing, you can barely believe it was real!
If you want to literally go off the beaten path, consider this horse trek through the Pululahua volcano crater in Ecuador, two hours from Quito (the ranch will come and pick you up near your hotel in Quito).
